Walkover
Walkover (often shortened to "walk over") refers to a situation where a competitor or team wins automatically without having to compete, usually due to the opponent's withdrawal, disqualification, or failure to appear.
In horse racing, a walkover occurs when only one horse is declared to run, meaning it completes the race unchallenged to be officially recognized as the winner. In tennis, if a player withdraws before the match starts, their opponent is awarded a walkover.
For betting, most bookmakers void bets on walkover events unless specific rules apply, such as ante-post markets, where bets may still stand depending on bookmaker policies.
